About the Role
In this role you will be working in the Environment and Biodiversity Team and will support the City and community to ensure that biodiversity and natural landscapes are retained, protected and enhanced.

This will be achieved through planning and management of the City’s nature reserve’s network including bush land, waterway, coastal reserves and management of the Nature Reserves Team. It will also include working collaboratively with other City business units, as well as community and friend groups, Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, other land managers such as Parks Vic and coastal committees, government departments and service providers and external contractors and consultants.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the Nature Reserves Team.
  • Working collaboratively and providing leadership to staff to deliver on ground programs in nature reserves.
  • Leading the development and reviewing of the City’s programs related to nature reserves.
  • Providing input into the planning of new nature reserves and working closely with the Environmental Planners and Strategic Planners.
  • Developing a partnership with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners in the nature reserves, including a program of cultural burns.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field
  • Extensive experience in nature reserve and ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to lead, guide and support a small team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across a range of disciplines.
  • Experience in managing contractors and consultants.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic and policy advice on environmental issues, particularly in relation to biodiversity conservation and enhancement.

Desirable:

  1. Experience in Local Government field would be advantageous.
  2. Knowledge of mapping programs would be an advantage.
